Frank Castorena Jr.
Frank Castorena Jr. is a proud first-generation college graduate born and raised in Los Angeles. His academic journey began at East Los Angeles College, where he discovered a passion for learning and community engagement. After transferring to UCLA, Frank earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Chicano/a Studies, laying out the foundation for his commitment to social justice and educational equity.
Frank continued his education at the University of Southern California, where he completed a Master’s in Social Work. Drawing on his lived experiences and dedication to service, Frank has long focused on supporting diverse and underrepresented communities, particularly foster youth.
As the Foster Youth Program Coordinator at the UCLA Center for Community College Partnerships, Frank steadily increased the number of foster youth students in the program, helping many successfully transfer to four-year universities. Now, as the Bruin Guardian Scholars Program Coordinator at UCLA, he continues to guide students through their UCLA journey, providing resources, mentorship, and advocacy to ensure their success and graduation.
Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Frank is an enthusiastic concertgoer who finds inspiration in live music. He also takes pride in cultivating a thriving collection of over 100 succulents and cacti, a testament to his patience and nurturing spirit.
Frank is excited to continue building community and supporting students as they navigate their educational journeys at UCLA and beyond.
