Services

The Guardian Scholars supports students educational, career, and personal needs. Some of the services that the Guardian Scholars helps to provide are:

  • Year Round Housing (summer and winter)
  • Scholarships and other financial assistance (if you maintain a good GPA)
  • Working with different departments on campus such as financial aid, housing, the career center
  • Employment and internship opportunities
  • Community and skill building workshops

Program Eligibility

Eligibility for the Bruin Guardian Scholars Program is dependent upon adhering to BGS requirements. Members should satisfy the following requirements to qualify. Members must identify as a current undergraduate or graduate student who has been accepted and admitted to the University with any of the following lived experiences:

  • Placement in a relative or non-relative foster home
  • Placement in a group home or other institutional care setting
  • Placement in a transitional living arrangement (for example, THP-M, THPP, THP+FC/NMD, or THP+)
  • Dependent / Non-minor dependent or ward of the court
  • Probation youth as ward of court
  • Subject to a legal guardianship or voluntary placement agreement (“VPA”)
  • Adoption (including TRA's)
  • Extended foster care (also referred to as “AB12”)

In order to maintain eligibility for the Bruin Guardian Scholars Program resources you must adhere to the program requirements, which include:

  • Checking in with a BGS staff member at least once a quarter
  • Attend at least 3 scheduled program activities per quarter
  • Abide by all college standards for appropriate conduct and community behavior
